The Hong Kong entertainment industry lost another bright star when it was announced earlier today that veteran actor and legendary comedian Richard Ng Yu Hon (吳耀漢) passed away on April 9 at the age of 83. According to media reports, members of the actor’s family were called in by his doctors yesterday to say their last goodbyes as he didn’t have much time left. Family members were reportedly told that the actor’s heart had stopped at one point which required his doctors to resuscitate him. As he was being kept alive by the life-support machines he was hooked up to, doctors ultimately confirmed the 83-year-old’s passing.

Richard Ng has worked alongside some of Hong Kong cinema’s heavy hitters such as Andy Lau, Michelle Yeoh, Jackie Chan and Jet Li just to name a few. Known for his trademark mustache, he has appeared in many works such as the action comedy series Lucky Stars 五福星 also known as Winners and Sinners and Beyond the Sunset飞越黄昏 which saw him nominated twice for the Best Actor award. He was most recently in Aaron Kwok and Tony Leung’s crime film Where the Wind Blows 风再起时 released just this year. And did you know that he also made a cameo in the 2003 Tomb Raider flick Cradle of Life which starred Angelina Jolie?

A recognizable face in the showbiz industry who has been making everyone laugh with his on-screen antics for more than 60 years, he shall be greatly missed.
