All set to make its small screen debut tonight is Rose War 玫瑰之战, which is said to be Chinese remake of the acclaimed American legal drama, The Good Wife. Unlike its South Korean counterpart which stuck to its original title, the show’s Chinese version seems to be making changes. However, it seems the show kept to its original premise where disgraced wife Gu Nian, played by actress Yuan Quan, is left to pick up the pieces after her husband was found guilty of a crime and was unfaithful to her. The show chronicles her transformative journey from a carefree housewife to a resilient and strong career woman. Huang Xiaoming co-stars as Feng Sheng, her “Will Gardner” of sorts since it’s through his help that she manages to get entrée into a law firm.

Originally, The Good Wife which starred multi award-winning actress Julianna Marguilies as the resilient Alicia Florrick ran for seven seasons totaling 156 episodes. How the Chinese version will pare that down to 40 we’ve yet to see. Nonetheless, Rose War is in good hands with Yuan Quan, who herself is well-known for her film and stage work winning awards such as the prestigious Golden Rooster Award.

Yuan Quan Replaces Vicki Zhao Wei

Speaking of, the role of Gu Nian in Rose War was reportedly given to actress Vicki Zhao Wei at first. However, with many of her work pulled off air mysteriously last year and the actress herself making a “disappearing act”, it is assumed that it’s for this reason that her scenes were reshot with actress Yuan Quan.

As for Vicky, the actress  appeared to be well in a recent paparazzi sighting at the Beijing airport. In June, the actress revealed that her father passed away and that it was hard for her to hide her grief.
