It’s been two years since the ice-sport themed drama Skate into Love 冰糖炖雪梨 first aired. Back then, short-speed skating athlete Wu Dajing who is an Olympic gold medalist made a cameo and even had a scene with Janice Wu Qian’s character where they promised to go for the gold at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Wu Dajing and his teammates Qu Chunyu, Fan Kexin and Ren Ziwei brought in China’s first gold medal at Beijing 2022 after winning the short-track speed skating mixed team relay. Wu Dajing will once again try to go for the gold tonight for the short track men’s 500m final. He previously won gold for the same event at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
Before the game, Janice Wu Qian and co-star Steven Zhang Xincheng took to their respective social media accounts to cheer for Wu Dajing. Janice even shared a photo she took with Wu Dajing from the filming set and the caption, “blessings from afar from Tang Xue (her character’s name)! Dajing Ge (a term for older brother)@WuDajing, although Li Yubing (Zhang Xincheng’s character) and I were not able to participate in the Winter Olympics this time, our hearts are always with you! Jiayou (Go for it)!”
In addition to sharing photos of Wu Dajing and scenes from the drama, Zhang Xincheng also shared a photo of himself watching Wu Dajing’s race from his tablet. He wrote, “Whether it is 2020 or 2022, Li Yubing wasn’t able to get Dajing Ge’s tickets… But! The same thing that has not changed, is the heart to cheer for him! Dajing Ge @WuDajing Jiayou (go fo it) today.”
Update: Wu Dajing failed to advance to the A final. He won the B final, which is a race to decide places five through eight.
