Sabina Mendes Wins Miss Hong Kong 2021

Miss Hong Kong 2021 Sabina Mendes

Congratulations to Sabina Mendes who was crowned the winner in this year’s Miss Hong Kong pageant held last night September 12. The 22-year-old is of mixed Chinese and Portuguese heritage and holds double degrees from the University of Toronto in Biochemistry and Biology. Like mother like daughter they say and it appears the apple does not fall far from the (beauty queen) tree as Sabina’s mum too was a runner-up in the Miss Macau pageant in 1990. She was also a contestant in the Miss Chinese International pageant in 1991 together with award-winning actress Anita Yuen.

Rounding off the top three in this year’s Miss Hong Kong competition are Carina Leung who won first runner-up and Kristy Shaw who placed second. Aside from the second runner-up title, Kristy was also voted Miss Friendship by her fellow contestants whilst Penny Yeung won Miss Photogenic. Fabienne Kwan, whose presence in the competition was not without some controversy after some Netizens accused her of using her dad Eddie Kwan’s connections to help get her further into the competition surprisingly didn’t place in the top 3. Likewise, another surprise upset is Yvette Chan who many were predicting will win the crown, failed to even get into the top 5.

As an added treat for the night, Cantopop legend Jacky Cheung was also present to lend some of his star power to the evening. Aside from wowing everyone with his new collab with Malaysian singer Gin Lee, the superstar also made sure to serenade the audience with some of the classic hits he’s well-known for.
