Surprise! After several years in the pipeline since filming wrapped in 2017, it’s officially a GO for Tears in Heaven 海上繁花, which is yet another drama adapted from a novel by author Fei Wo Si Cun 匪我思存. The premiere date tonight, Jun 23, was only announced earlier today.
The Shawn Dou, Li Qin and Leon Zhang Yunlong helmed drama has long been awaited by fans of the author who’s known for her tear jerkers and melodramas. Tears in Heaven is no different, so make sure to keep some tissue on hand as you follow along the complicated love story (and a tragic one) between Du Xiaosu played by actress Li Qin and her two beaus Lei Yuzheng (Shawn Dou) and Shao Zhenrong (Zhang Yunlong).
As for today’s surprise airing, Fei Wo Si Cun herself did a quick count of the number of dramas adapted from her published novels, and she’s listed 9! –
The Girl in Blue 佳期如夢 (Aired 2010)
Too Late to Say I Love You 来不及说我爱你 (Aired 2010)
Sealed with a Kiss 千山暮雪 (Aired 2011)
Le Jun Kai 乐俊凯 (Aired 2013)
Chronicle of Life 寂寞空庭春欲晚 (Aired 2016)
Goodbye My Princess 东宫 (Aired 2019)
As Long as You Love Me 爱情的开关 (Aired 2020)
Tears in Heaven 佳期如梦之海上繁花
Wang Hou Yu Sheng 往后余生
** Whilst not on her list due to a rumoured falling out with the drama’s production, Siege in Fog 人生若如初相见, the adaptation to her book Mi Lu Wei Cheng also premiered a few years ago on 2018.
Aigooo another tragic drama. I’ve watched some of those dramas and still feel so heartbroken… and now… another one is coming to town…
Will watch. Definitely. I’ll prepare some boxes of tissues.
2017?! HOLY CRAP. What’s the point of airing it now?
Li Qin is annoyed with these childish grimaces in every drama she does. But to see Shawn Dou is worth any sacrifice.
