I’m sure many of you have already seen the very distressing video of an unprovoked attack on a 91-year-old Asian man who was violently shoved to the ground by an unidentified person. American news outlets report that the same assailant also went on to attack two other elderly Asians within the area. To help put whoever was responsible behind bars, Asian American actors Daniel Wu and Daniel Dae Kim have offered up a reward of $25,000 to anyone with information that could lead to the man’s arrest.

It’s truly horrifying to see the recent spate of hate crimes against Asians and even more so when the hapless victims are the elderly. In San Francisco, an 84-year-old Thai man died after he was attacked whilst out on a morning walk. In New York City, a Filipino American had to get 100 stitches after he was slashed across the face with a box cutter by another passenger whilst on the subway. No one reportedly came to help him on the train.

The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 has unfortunately set off a dramatic rise in the number of hate crimes against Asians. And regrettably, most of these stories have yet to be picked up by mainstream media. Thankfully, aside from offering a bounty, both Daniel Wu and DDK together with other Asian celebs like Gemma Chan and Lisa Ling have started to use their platforms to bring much needed attention to this issue. Nobody wishes these senseless attacks to EVER happen to their grandparents so hopefully, other celebrities will also lend their voices to raise awareness and bring much needed action.
