As someone who is into Japanese dramas, the remake of the much-loved Chinese drama Love O2O 微微一笑很倾城 really intrigues me!
Through a Japanese-Chinese collaboration between Fuji TV and Youku, the c-drama starring Yang Yang and Zheng Shuang back in 2016 is set to have a 10-episode Japanese remake entitled Cinderella is Online. The adaptation stars Nakamura Riho and Seto Toshiki and it begins airing on January 12, 2021!
The story originally based on the novel by Gu Man is pretty familiar with the female lead, Arisawa Ichika more interested in playing the online game Tenkyo than falling in love. Her avatar Vivi ends up virtually dating the top player Leon. They then meet in real life with the surprise of him being the campus prince who has everything going for him. He is smart, athletic and even owns a gaming company. However, once they start dating, Arisawa gets attacked by those who are jealous of her.
Both the web series and the movie adaptation of Love O2O are full of fluff, so I’m imagining that the J-dorama will also turn out to be a fun watch. Although now that they’re painting our heroine as Cinderella and even have that scene where the ‘prince’ gets down on one knee to put on a shoe for her, I wonder what kind of twist this version will have. Tell me what you think in the comments below.
