Ren Jialun and Bai Lu have wrapped filming for the historical drama Chang An Ru Gu 长安如故 as of yesterday. It’s technically their “second” collaboration in a row since it was shot right after the modern drama Forever and Ever 一生一世. Although both had separate boot ceremonies and even have their respective weibo accounts, it took a little over four months to film everything which is equivalent to the usual length of time for one drama.
Chang An Ru Gu follows the romance between a war hero loyal to his country, and a beautiful woman who has been arranged to marry the crown prince. Forever and Ever brings the main couple to the present and follows the heroine Shi Yi who’s now a voice actress as she bumps into chemistry professor Zhou Shengchen at the airport. In the novel, the story about their past lives is seen through Shi Yi’s memories which she retains in the modern day.
It’s not clear what changes will be made with the decision to have two dramas. Nonetheless, author Mo Bao Fei Bao’s 墨宝非宝 who wrote the novel One Life, One Incarnation – Beautiful Bones 一生一世美人骨 that the story is based on is also onboard as the screenwriter. Considering that the prequel already seems tragic right from the start, I’m hoping there won’t be a wait for the modern counterpart which I assume is much happier.
