Many of you may know that Detective Chinatown 3 唐人街探案3, the third installment in the comedy film series from director Chen Sicheng, was supposed to hit cinemas last Chinese New Year. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, producers and distributors have cancelled the release of all films during what should have been China’s biggest box office season.
Thankfully, the wait is coming to an end. Detective Chinatown 3 will be released on Chinese New Year 2021. The uncle-nephew detective duo are back at it again as Tang Ren and Qin Feng investigate another major crime that takes them this time to Tokyo, thus leading to a battle between the strongest detectives in Asia.
Wang Baoqiang took to social media to say, “Long time no see, Detective Chinatown is back, Tang Ren is back! Without realizing it, it’s been 5 years since I met Tang Ren. We walked many roads together, some went smoothly, some were difficult. Now, Detective Chinatown 3 is finally ready to meet everyone, thank you for your support! 2021 Lunar New Year, looking forward to seeing you in theaters.”
Liu Haoran had a similar message, “I still remember that when I first met Qin Feng five years ago, he still felt a little lonely and was not very good at communicating with the outside world. Now Qin Feng has clear beliefs and goals, and he can firmly choose to become the kind of person he wants to be. The journey that Qin Feng has traveled in the past five years is very meaningful and everyone has grown and progressed together. On the first day of the Lunar New Year in 2021, we will see it in Detective Chinatown 3!”
It goes without saying that many couldn’t hold back their excitement since it’s been one whole year of waiting for Tang Ren and Qin Feng. The cast also includes Satoshi Tsumabuki as Noda Hiroshi, Tony Jaa as Jack Jaa, Masami Nagasawa as Kobayashi Anna, Zhang Zifeng as Snow, Xiao Yang as Song Yi, and Shang Yuxian as Kiko.
