Her elimination from iQiyi’s Youth With You 2 might have landed a blow to Qin Niu Zhengwei’s idol aspirations but that itself might have been a blessing in disguise. Recently, we’ve been hearing about the activities from some of the ladies who didn’t make the cut, such as NINEONE who established her own studio on Weibo (hence indicating that she will be managed by a team) and a new ‘supermodel group’ comprised of Aria Jin, Jenny Zeng, Liu Lingzi and Flora Dai called 172 GIRLS – a nod to everyone’s height being over 172cm.

While Qin Niu Zhengwei may have lost her chance to debut in THE9 after being eliminated in the earlier rounds, she’s now focusing her efforts on what she does best – acting. Not that I’ve actually seen her act, but seeing that she’s a student at the prestigious Beijing Film Academy where competition to get in is fierce, I reckon it’s safe to infer that perhaps her talents lie in that direction.
As they say, when one door closes, another opens. So while Qin Niu Zhengwei might have to set her idol dreams aside for the time being, she just landed herself a new gig to appear in the pandemic themed movie Ordinary World 平凡世界 which stars Joe Chen no less together with Zhang Lunshuo, Koss Zhao Tianyu and Liu Mengna amongst others. Not bad for her first movie right? Not to mention the extra perk of having to work with Joe Chen, of whom the former idol trainee is a big fan.
In fact at the recent presscon attended by the movie’s cast, Qin Niu Zhengwei was giddily fangirling when she admitted on stage that working with Joe Chen had the similar feeling of chasing your favourite stars. That’s coz she’s been following Joe’s career since her The Prince Who Turns into a Frog and Fated to Love You days up to Swordsman, etc.
Ordinary World features a collection of five separate mini stories drawn from the real experiences of real people in the face of the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
