After its sudden postponement just a couple weeks before its March release in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the live-action remake of Mulan seems raring to finally hit the big screens with a new release date on July 24, 2020. Director Niki Caro shares, “Once it is again safe to gather, to sit in a movie theatre together and share the experience of of a great story, we will be there. And we can’t wait to share Mulan’s journey with you all. Worldwide. On big screens.”

Along with Mulan, Marvel has rejigged the calendar for its upcoming superhero movies. Black Widow’s premiere has been pushed back to November 6, 2020 and Shang-Chi’s has been moved to May 7, 2021 among others. Color me surprised upon hearing that this news dropped yesterday. Like many people around the world, I am on lockdown. Mulan’s new premiere seems optimistic that moviegoers will be flocking to the theaters by then. I hope they’re right if only because it means that the health crisis would have abated. Stay safe everyone! Leaving you with a song from the titular lead, Crystal Liu Yifei, as she sings the Chinese version of Reflection.
