Fatal Journey: iQIYI's Next The Untamed Spinoff Movie Premieres this Month

They say that when you fall off a horse, you must quickly get back in the saddle. But what if you manage to successfully keep your seat to become an instant hit? You make a spinoff of course! The thing about spinoffs though, is that it can only go one of two ways methinks – either a runaway hit or a total flop. And if your precedent is the mega hit series The Untamed 陈情令, you can be sure that the pressure’s on.

Last year, we saw Yu Bin and Zheng Fanxing reprise their roles as Wen Ning and Lan Sizhui respectively in the spinoff movie The Untamed: Living Dead. While it retained the original characters from the series, the storyline altogether is different from the drama, focusing on Wen Ning and Lan Sizhui teaming up to solve the mystery behind a ghost terrorizing the town and the remaining members of the Xiao family.

Well this year, the Nie brothers are the next ones getting their very own spinoff. Entitled Fatal Journey 陈情令之乱魄, brothers Nie Huaisang and Nie Mingjue will be the main protagonist in iQiyi’s latest offering and we’ll learn how the brother who fooled everyone into thinking that he “doesn’t know” anything discovers the truth about Mingjue’s death. At this point, very little has been revealed from the trailer but judging from the poster – the giant sword they’re standing on might be a clue to the movie’s premise?

Anyway, let’s talk about the cast. You’ll be pleased to know that the original actors Ji Li and Wang Yizhou will be back to don the mantles of their characters from the series. They’ll be joined by special appearances of Zhu Zanjin, the actor who portayed Jin Guangyao.

It premieres March 26 on iQIYI.
