Xia Zhiyuan might not be a household name, but he’s certainly endeared himself to anyone who has seen him playing the god of marriage as Moon Immortal in the hit drama Ashes of Love. And now, for his latest project, the actor finds himself once again playing another legendary character in The Legend of Young Justice Bao 少年包拯. Cast to play the main titular role of young Bao Zheng, known today as the famed magistrate and investigator who epitomised justice for all, this is the perfect opportunity for the young actor to show off his acting chops in the lead role.
Here he is with Bao Zheng’s trademark crescent shaped birthmark. What do you guys think?

Mystery lovers will find yet another take on China’s legendary detective with Bao Zheng, his mom, Gongsun Ce and a Zhan Zhao that’s in his early teens. No facial recognition software or fancy lab equipment to help them. Just good ol’ smarts, wit, great observational skills and an extraordinary talent for deduction to help him crack a case. Looking at the the drama’s trailer, the show also threw in some supernatural elements with the creepy red masked ghost bride popping up here and there. I wonder how Bao Zheng will solve this one. But all in all the visuals look mighty interesting with its infusion of the supernatural coupled with Bao Zheng’s legendary sleuthing smarts.

The series also stars Fu Ziming, Maggie Liu Xinqi, Kingdom Yuen and Shen Baoping and Peng Yibo. It has premiered on January 9, 2020 on Youku.

The actors who played Judge Bao in the past all had their skins darkened (including the most famous Judge Bao 1993) which I grew up watching. But nowadays some people might complain.
