We often see rags-to-riches kind of stories but Rebirth of Shopping Addict 我不是购物狂 is the exact opposite, riches-to-rags. It stars Sunny Wang, Meng Ziyi and Li Shen!
The 44-episode drama will center on Gao Yang, a spoiled shopaholic who lives high off the hog. She’s used to having money to burn but all of it changes overnight when her father leaves without warning after becoming bankrupt. Without any way to find him, Gao Yang’s world begins to crumble.
Enter the two new men in her lives: Yan Li, the younger brother of his father’s assistant and Gao Yang’s new employer Li Mingche who falls for her too.
Having seen Sunny Wang in No Secrets, I can say that he’s really a leading man material. His tandem with Meng Ziyi already caught my eye through their quirky first meeting. I’m looking forward to seeing just how their relationship would develop and of course, how Sunny Wang will deal with his jealousy.
Despite also coming from the hit drama The Untamed, Meng Ziyi is probably the one cast member that wasn’t accepted by some viewers due to the initial controversies around her casting. I would definitely pay to see her redeeming herself because she did not deserve the backlash. As for Li Shen, Joy of Life fans ought to recognize him as Fan Xian’s earnest bodyguard Gao Da!
Although the plot is not uncommon, I prefer it over the Cinderella types. I can already see that despite it having a comedic approach in the plot, a lot of emotionally charged moments are expected of Meng Ziyi’s character.
The cast also includes Lu Chen, Annie Chen Tingni, Li Binghui, Huang Heli. Actress Chen Zihan will have a special starring role.
