It’s true that going to a doctor can be expensive but what if I tell you there’s a certain doctor who will treat you without having to shed a single penny? Sounds good? Well, think again because he’s no ordinary doctor.
Bai Yu, whom most of you loved in Guardian, returns as a striking doctor in Fairyland Lovers 蓬莱间. He’ll act alongside My Mowgli Boy star Jade Zheng Qiuhong in the 35-episode fantasy romance drama that’s adapted from a novel of the same name by Lu Han 路寒.
Bai Qi is a mysterious man who takes over Lin Xia’s place for his ‘clinic’ and ends up living with her. He isn’t your ordinary doctor because for one thing, he doesn’t accept monetary payments. Instead, he would ask his patients to give up their most precious possession. He isn’t the only one that’s strange because a lot of them are of the otherworldly kind.
Cursed to wander the earth for a very loooong time, he’s waiting for his ladylove whom he eventually believed to be reincarnated as Lin Xia. Oh, I love those kinds of stories where the characters’ lives are intertwined in the past! Needless to say, the two fall in love but can their romance really succeed?
I initially thought that this was going to be dark but after checking out the teaser, it is sweet, light and funnier than expected. Bai Yu will also have an on-screen reunion with his Detective L co-star, Ji Xiaobing, who plays Yang Jian, a heavenly soldier. He’s the mortal enemy of Bai Qi but their relationship seems more like frenemies, I think, judging from their silly banters and antagonistic relationship when Yang Jian pointedly tells Bai Qi that he is moving in.
It looks like Yang Jian finds his love interest in a celebrity played by Estelle Chen Yihan. Li Mingde rounds up the cast as an all-purpose butler (and a cute one, if I might add).
Truth be told, this kinda reminds me of the Korean drama Goblin in more ways than one. I’m actually hoping that Bai Qi and Yang Ji’s bromance will be like that of Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook. That would definitely be epic!
