Lee Dong Wook surely knows how to get attention-grabbing roles, from the adorable Grim Reaper in Goblin to the handsome yet dark dentist in Hell is Other People and now, he transforms into a Gumiho!
He has been confirmed to star in the fantasy drama The Story of Gumiho (working title) alongside Temperature of Love star Jo Bo Ah. The drama has a modern take on the legend of the mythical nine-tailed fox. Lee Dong Wook will play the gumiho who was once an all-powerful god but now works as someone who is responsible for ensuring peace between the world of the living and the underworld. Meanwhile, Jo Bo Ah takes on the character of a PD who seeks urban legends. From ghostly apparitions to mythical creatures, you can count on her to boldly take on the challenge of finding them.
There really is no shortage of unique and interesting concepts in K-dramaland. I specifically like the tandem of the two characters, one is after legends while the other is a legendary creature. It’s also true that having a male gumiho is quite a rare notion, especially if you’ve watched the 2010 series My Girlfriend is a Gumiho where obviously, the gumiho is female and portrayed by Shin Min Ah though I also watched Naruto and its depiction of the legendary male fox, so the gender really goes both ways. Of course, it would still be fascinating to see Lee Dong Wook stepping up to the challenge and owning the character. The drama is expected to air in 2020 and I’m sure many are already waiting for it.
