Ever since the huge success of Ode to Joy and its sequel, it’s not really surprising that Chinese female-centric dramas are gaining more and more attention in the industry. While it’s still quite “niche” when compared to the popularity of costumed dramas and fluffier youth dramas that’s been dominating the drama sphere recently, it would be interesting to see whether “women taking the world by storm” themes would be an emerging trend we’ll be seeing more of in the future. If these two women helmed dramas that just wrapped are any indication, it could certainly be the case!

After a few hiccups in the casting department, Nothing But Thirty 30而已 has already completed its filming last November 28. Starring Maggie Jiang Shuying, Tong Yao and Mao Xiaotong who play three dissimilar women in varying circumstances that are about to turn the big 3-0. A pity though that actress Tong Liya opted to drop out of the project but I guess that’s just the way of things in dramaland.

Meanwhile, exuding some very Ode to Joy slash Sex and the City vibes are the independent ladies of Love in Shanghai 他其实没有那么爱你 who were all smiles for the closing party photos. Guess they’re all glad to be wrapping up filming just before winter fully sets in. Follow along as actresses Victoria Song, Celina Jade, Zhang Jianing and Li Chun maneuver through the pitfalls in their quest to find happiness and fulfillment in their love lives and careers with the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai as their stunning backdrop.

Still no airdate confirmed right? I'm looking forward to these dramas. Wish this genre becomes a trend, as I'm sick of watching damsel in distress or Cinderella heroines.

Hey there! Unfortunately there's none yet in sight. I reckon post prod will probably take them some time to finish too. But I totally hear ya, I just hope they'll be able to put fresh spins to stories that'll be coming out of this genre in the future.
