Anyone who’s a keen volleyball fan can look forward to the new youth idol sports drama Unstoppable Youth 青春抛物线 with it serving up some major sports action and a side helping of romance. Besides, we all love a good underdog story right? Sports dramas are never just about sports anyway because it also represents stories of people beating the odds to triumph over adversity, and the battle between the proverbial Davids (underdogs) versus the Goliaths (crowd favourites). Either way, I always fall for these types of films or dramas hook line and sinker!

A 40 episode series, Unstoppable Youth tells the story of how a team that was just about to be disbanded bounces back to become a force to be reckoned with in the national collegiate volleyball league. It stars Alan Yu Menglong, Vivi Miao Miao, Zhou You and Maggie Chen Xinyu.

After losing another game in the city university league, the Mingyang Women’s team faces the threat of being dissolved. However, things start looking up when the heroine Yi Anle joins the team. Under the leadership of the unlikely volleyball talent Yi Anle, the rag-tag team slowly but surely grows into a stronger cohesive unit. But the road to winning is long and winding with many difficulties and (emotional) distractions along the way. When they fail to win an important game that gets them into the provincial league, the team are under immense pressure to make a final push and win the last game ensuring them a place in the league. Can they set aside their doubts, differences and distractions in order to win?

Now on to the cast of characters! Aside from Vivi Miao who plays Yi Anle, a talented and optimistic girl born into a volleyball family, Alan Yu Menglong plays Yi Anle’s romantic “distraction”. His character Fu Anyuan typifies the “still waters run deep” type of male characters we always see in romantic dramas.

Zhou You is the sunny and confident Ye Manyang, the reserve team’s main attacker. Maggie Chen Xinyu is Qiu Yanya, a menace on the court as the team’s main attacker. Also in the drama and rounding up the cast are Chen Weidong, Wang Naichao, Li Mengmeng, Fu Jing, Wang Luyun, Yuan Li Ruo Xin, Zhao Luyan and Chang Jikuan.
Release Date: November 27, 2019 iQIYI, Tencent, Youku (two episodes every Wednesday to Friday at 8pm, VIP members watch 6 episodes in advance)
