The Love Equations 致我们甜甜的小美满, previously known as The Sweet Love Story, is a romance drama based on Zhang Qianqian’s novel The Boat and the Beginning. If you loved the warm, playful romance that A Love So Beautiful and Put Your Head On My Shoulders offered, then you might want to indulge yourself in the latest gift from the same author that brought you the two novel-turned dramas.
It stars Flavour It’s Yours lead actor Simon Gong Jun as a medical forensic science student with a cold and detached demeanor. He’ll be acting alongside rookie actress Liu Renyu from Produce 101 who takes the role of an adorable and bubbly Literature student. If the previous Zhao Qianqian dramas were about school crushes, this seems a little different this time with a couple that go their separate ways and find each other again, more than once!

Ah, sounds dramatic! But putting my trust in the writer’s previous works, it already looks like another light, campus drama that’s good to binge when you’re feeling gloomy. The Love Equations brings together another mix of friendly and fresh faces that include Li Geyang, Wanyan Luorong, An Yongchang, and Gao Qiuzi.
I like that the cast are mostly rookies since it’s one way to make them shine rather than pitting them in a drama against a LOT of popular names. Heck, I haven’t even seen the female lead before. It was easy enough falling for Shen Yue, Hu Yitian, Xing Fei and Lin Yi, I’d look forward to meeting this new pairing too. Personally, I think youth dramas are the ideal medium to showcase a newbie’s talent. It’s light and often relatable for the audience.

No matter how cliche, I always find myself coming back to dramas from this genre from time to time because it takes me back to the memory of love that’s so easy and less complicated. Ah, young love!

"cold and detached demeanor" – male lead
"adorable and bubbly" – female lead
Copy, paste and repeat. I'm beginning to wonder if writers for these C-drama romances are forbidden to write any other type of characters for their male and female leads.

I'm reading the novel at the moment (only part way through). It seems as though they made a few small changes to make a bit more like a typical school rom com drama. In the novel, the main girl is quite adorable but she's a bit different than the typical innocent type. She swears quite often XD
Also, the male lead in the novel is noted to be a bit cold and detached before they broke up and meet again. He still has a sharp tongue but he's changed quite a bit. Also, not sure if it's that important, but in the novel, he's studying economics and not medical in the drama.
I hope the drama is able to keep most of the good parts of the novel like they did with Put Your Head On My Shoulder.

The novel of A Love So Beautiful actually started with the two leads meeting years after breaking up. The essence of the novel was actually about their reconciliation and life after, not so much school romance. But of course 青梅竹馬 and 校園戀愛 sells so they changed the story for the drama accordingly and most of the drama focused on talking about their high school days then put more than half the novel into the last few episodes.
If they are already stating that this drama this time is about the leads parting and meeting again, I hope they stick with this.

@ J. Lee: Thanks. They sound more interesting in the novel! But like you said, hopefully, they will keep the good parts.

Nah. Aside from the common plot, it is so obvious that the crew tried to recreate the Jiang Chen – Chen Xiao Xi vibe and looks.
*face palm* Quite embarrassing, really. But all the best to the cast!
