Hunting fugitives to the ends of the earth is the name of the game in the new production simply entitled Hunting 猎狐 that stars Wang Kai, Angel Wang Ou, Hu Jun and Liu Yijun. The drama richly details the efforts of the newly formed economic investigation team as they take viewers for a wild ride around the world and across the grassy plains of the Masai Mara in pursuit of economic fugitives who’ve escaped across China’s borders.
With its rapidly expanding economy in the decade following the mid noughties, China was a hotspot for the ebb and flow of hot money across the globe. Of course, where there is money to be made, you can always be sure that wily foxes will also be sniffing about to take advantage.
Wang Kai plays Xia Yuan, a rising star in the police force known for his excellent investigative skills and extraordinary mathematical talents. Transferring to the newly established Economic Investigation Team, he encounters Wang Bolin (Liu Yijun) a businessman Xia Yuan suspects is somehow involved in shady dealings. With Wang Bolin’s rapidly expanding business empire, Xia Yuan concludes that something smells fishy – could it be that a huge consipiracy and the backing of a criminal network is involved? However, like a wily fox, Wang Bolin manages to stay one step ahead of Xia Yuan’s clutches and escapes overseas. Now that the Ministry of Public Security finally declares “open season”, the hunt for the wily fox is on!
With the project being a reunion of sorts, Wang Kai and Liu Yijun reunite with their Nirvana in Fire and The Disguiserco-star Angel Wang Ou who plays Xia Yuan’s investigative partner and leading lady. They are joined by a supporting cast that includes Deng Jiajia, Fu Jing, Wang Tonghui, Qiao Dawei, Chen Chuhan, and Zhang Tao. Meanwhile, here’s a look at what transpired behind the scenes.
