HBO’s series The Teenage Psychic is back this October 6! There’s a good reason to be excited, and that’s because the old cast is back to continue the story of Xie Yazhen (there’s nothing than having fresh faces in a sequel that I hate more). Two new characters will also be joining season 2, Zhang Yuxuan and Zhan Xiaotong, both will be playing important roles this season.

Season 2 will be a continuation of season 1, still revolving mostly around Xie Yazhen (Kuo Shu-yao), a 16-year-old teenager who tries to live a normal life despite having special abilities to connect with supernatural beings. It opens with Xie Yazhen coping with events that transpired last school year. She now takes office as the drama guild’s new president, and while she’s busy recruiting new members, two newbies Zhang Yuxuan (Fandy Fan) and Zhan Xiaotong (Wen Chen-ling) come forth to bring new mysteries and adventures into her life. Things also get complicated as the company unveils the family secret that has come to haunt Teacher Kim (Chen Muyi).

Two episodes are airing on premiere night, available exclusively on HBO Asia’s network of channels at 9pm. Next episodes will be released every Sunday at 9pm. From a total of six episodes last time, the director has lengthened it to eight this season.

What’s interesting for me is that the series is based on real-life experiences of a local psychic named Sophia. Sophia has been on set ever since season 1, acting as an intermediary between the spirits that might disturb the set, and probably as Kuo Shu-yao’s personal consultant for the role as well.
