The 1st Asia Contents Awards launched jointly by the Busan International Film Festival and the Asian Film Market was held in Busan, South Korea on October 6. Several winners were selected for best actor and best actress which included Chinese stars Lei Jiayin for The Longest Day in Chang’An and Yao Chen for All Is Well. Considering the raving reviews for both shows, it’s nothing but well-deserved.
As the presenter, Angelababy was in photos with Korean actor Kim Nam Gil who also won best actor for The Fiery Priest. Japanese actor Yamada Takayuki took home the same prize for The Naked Director.
Meanwhile, Filipino actress Maja Salvador was the other recipient of the best actress award for Wildflower. Best creative which was the top award for the night went to Korean producer Kim Yongkyu for Mr. Sunshine. The best Asian drama awards went to the Hormones: The Series from Thailand and Faculty from Singapore.
It’s not surprising at all to see multiple recipients for each category given the spectrum of dramas produced across the continent. It may be a young awards show but with a focus to highlight TV series produced in Asia, it’s an exciting endeavor and a window to see the best of the best.
