China celebrates the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China with new films! As expected, the nationalistic films have come in full force as a way to boost the film industry and promote national pride. Wu Jing who has two movies ranking among China’s top box office films of all time returns with a new film, yet it is just one of the National Day movies that are bringing in huge star-studded productions some of whom crossover to appear in more than one movie.
The top three contenders include – The Climbers, The Captain, and My People, My Country which opened today and it looks like we have a winner.
Based on the cutoff time at 13:00 on September 30, My People, My Country led the pack with 230 million yuan. The Captain came in second with 170 million yuan while The Climbers came in third with 140 million yuan. Mao Zedong 1949 which was released more than a week earlier also recently reached 100 million yuan in the box office.

1. The Climbers 攀登者

Plot: A biographical drama about the miraculous emergency landing of the Sichuan Airlines flight 3U8633 back in May 2018.
3. My People, My Country 我和我的祖国
Release Date: September 30, 2019

4. Mao Zedong 1949 决胜时刻

Cast: Tang Guoqian, Liu Jin, Johnny Huang, Wang Likun, Qin Lan, Lin Yongjian and Ma Tianyu
Plot: Mao Zedong 1949 retraces the history of the communist party from the Communist Party of China Central Committee, rising to the Fragrant Hills in northwest Beijing, and eventually to the founding of the PRC on October 1.

there was info posted that none of the cast of this movie receive any money. china doesnt joke around with nationalism. they had over the top performances and insanely talented ones by Zhang Yimou too. fireworks were everywhere and this movie was marketed heavily.
