Jade Dynasty, The Last Wish and Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire are the three new movies competing at the Chinese box office for Mid-Autumn Festival. Taking the lead is Jade Dynasty which has hit RMB 100 million in ticket sales by late afternoon when it premiered on September 13.

It’s a movie that has a lot going for it with action-director Ching Siu-tung helming the fantasy action flick and a solid fanbase of the novel by Xiao Ding that has previously sprung the hit drama Legend of Chusen. Of course, there’s the cast led by Xiao Zhan in his first starring role in a movie along with Li Qin, Meng Meiqi and Tang Yixin.

I saw multiple hashtags about it trending on Weibo today ranging from discussions about Li Qin not having enough scenes despite being the leading lady to the persisting complaints about Meng Meiqi’s styling as Bi Yao and talk of Xiao Zhan’s kissing scene!

Then there’s the eternal debate about the main character Zhang Xiaofan and the two women in his life where the answer is obvious to some but not others. I don’t know if Tian Linger counts as the third but Tang Yixin who portrayed the same character twice is purely adorable. Honestly, I just really want to see this and decide for myself.

100m in one day is suspicious. Despite being a huge IP, Chusen always looked like it'll flop. Plus, all three leads are nobodies. There's definitely something fishy.
Anonymous
I wouldn't say all three leads are nobodies. Xiao Zhan is very popular right now and a lot of his fans contributed to a majority of the ticket sales on opening day.

Are you kidding ? Xiao Zhan is hot right now. You must be living under a rock.

DramaPanda writers made it so obvious that they have bias on Xiao Zhan. Everything about him want to be written into articles.
You guys wrote an article for this small achievement but The Bravest has been doing very well at the box office since it's opening but you didn't write a single article about it at all?? Bravest is currently sitting at #25 on the list of all-time highest grossing film in China with over 1.5 billion RMB. It's the second domestic summer hit after Nezha.
Stop showing so much bias. 100 RMB on first day is not even that impressive.

Apparently, we all have our biases but that does not mean you have to be so negative.

I hope the movie Jade Dynasty does well. I really want to watch it, but it will probably take some time before it's translated and available somewhere…
AAA
It actually achieve close to 150 million on opening day! Some haters here but nonetheless it’s doing amazing. Congrats to Xiao Zhan and the production team!

LOL the 3 leads are popular. Only Meng Meiqi is not but she's getting really popular with those hair now.
The drama was well known and it aired first. The drama was one hell of a boring prison (except all the ZLY scenes) but it wass the best drama made that year compare to all other shows aired during that time.

Then why don't you go open your own page and write those article yourself!

I used to think there was an odd abundance of Xiao Zhan and Wang Yi Bo articles on DramaPanda too. Then I watched The Untamed and I totally get the love for the both of them! I say bring on even more articles!
Wth is The Bravest and why should I care? DramaPanda isn't about box office performance…
Anonymous
I didn't like Untamed that much, it's overly hyped. But I understand why XZ and WYB are getting all these articles. They are trying to strike while they're still firing hot, they are working nonstop and choosing to work with big actresses Dramapanda usually write about all the time, Zhao liying and Yang Zi.

More reasons why article on The Bravest need to be written. It's to educate ignorant fans like you guys. It's a movie which Yang Zi starred in and it's performance at the box office has been amazing next to Nezha.
If DramaPanda can celebrate this small thing, why the heck couldnt they celebrate The Bravest who has been doing very well, much better than this since it's opening? This isn't a personal blog, idiot. Even if the writers have own biases, they should not make it so obvious and try to be fair and professional when reporting news.
Xiao Zhan really has some of the most stupid fans ever. On The Oath of Love article, they keep bashing Yang Zi for disgusting reasons. Now, they act almighty just because this film had 100 million yuan ticket sales. World doesn't revolve around your bias.

This isn't a news website… idiot. They can write whatever they want to. If you don't like it, get lost. World doesn't revolve around your needs or wants.
Btw I'm not even a Xiao Zhan fan and couldn't care less about this movie. Just don't like your entitled attitude.

Okay but can we talk about the trending kiss? It's so hilariously awkward and ugly esp when you see it on the big screen I can't XD Everyone should see this for a good entertainment lmfao. Though the one who receives more flak is Meng Meiqi. Because of the kiss and the higher screentime she got compared to Li Qin.

Tf did I just watch damn. This has the same energy with the horrific Shawn and Camilla kiss from their IG story. I need to go and cleanse my eyes….

the fans girls sound like their dying. OMG fan girls scare me

why can't some people just be happy that a film grossed that much. It means people watch these films because they find it worth their time and money. It's their right. If some are too negative about these things, then they may have an unhappy life to begin with. They should look at their own lives first before questioning others.

Hahahahaha TF??? Such an awkward scene, kind of yucky too. But actually, wasn't so bad if they didn't make that scene so overly long… or did they just repeat it over and over to make it look longer?
I'm sure just because the girl is Meiqi people are complaining.
Just because fan girls think Meiqi is uglier than them and they deserve him more.
Imagine have it been somebody prettier, his fans would shut up and have no guts to complain.

She didn't even kiss his lips, she kissed his teeth like gurll wyd??? It's so awkward.
Hello police , how to unsee this.

Miss 7.d
A pretty actress would receive praises for kissing his teeth! 😀

I think you're probably talking about box office draw. And yes, all three leads can be considered minuses even though they are technically "popular".
The movie sucks anyway. Fans are controlling reviews on Weibo but yeah it sucks.

LOL! Oh man, I wish I didn't watch this. It was hilarious. Also, is that how loud the audience actually gets in theaters in China when they're watching their idols? That's like concert level loud. LOL!

i haven't read the novel, would anyone kind enough to tell the ending (based on novel, not drama/movie version) ? i just want to know if its happy ending for biyao and xiaofan or not. pleasseee~

Bi Yao dies relatively fast in the novel. They should have killed her much earlier on the movie too, because the drama dragged it way too long, two seasons on Bi Yao only because Zanilia Zhao was cast on the role and her fans rioted when they hear that the script-writers wanted her to die at half way of the first season. The main lead girl should be Lu XueQi, played by Li Qin on the movie and Yang Zi on the drama.

All these naysayers please kindly GTFO. I watched the movie and except for small things here and there, and for the fact that it ends on a cliffhanger, I would dare to give it a 9 out of 10. I laughed heartily, Xiao Zhan was again brilliant on his acting, he has become now by far my favorite actor already.
The movie has surpassed 500 million RMB at box office in the first 5 days, which is quite an achievement. Congrats to all the cast for such a huge success. All the haters that down-vote this movie on Douban and elsewhere are the usual idiots that tried to down-vote The Untamed as well when the first episodes came out. I couldn't believe it had only 5.5 stars and mostly 1 stars reviews and rants, but now is over 8.0 stars after the "normal" people finished watching and cast their vote unbiased. The same will happen with Jade Dynasty, I'm quite confident. Xiao Zhan will have a bright future, he is red hot at the moment, rocking all the charts possible as number 1 most popular. Well deserved recognition for a hard working, humble, talented young actor.

The movie was only 1 hour and something minutes. They focused too much on fighting scenes, I don't blame that and because the focus was on the main character Xiao Fan a lot.
Bi Yao only appeared 3-4 times more than Xue Qi in the movie. They killed Bi Yao early enough, almost too soon because there was really almost no development between her and Xiao Fan at all and she died already.
Better than the drama, after 30 episodes that is more than half the drama already and Bi Yao was still living. People keep asking, will Bi Yao die yet? The next episode, will she die yet? All the way to the very end of the episode 55…YEAH, she died! But, it's at the very very end…LOL!!!!!!!!! Biggest joke ever.

A small correction: the movie as of now reaches 307 million RMB. It may eventually surpass that 500 million mark, but we shall see later. The Douban score actually dropped, from 6 something on premiere day to 5.4 (or maybe it just got up to 5.5).

Meng Mei Qi is from a Korean girl before coming to China u guys r wrong she is pretty popular girls who speak with no brainers like the second anonymous below urs need to stfu like she is any pretty than MMQ first of all its not her that wanted that hairstyle its the hairstylist. Even though we share one in common about liking ZLY it's not cool to judge when u dont watch wat u say u dont even know her to judge her. As a woman, it's pretty shameful.
