The 76th annual Venice Film Festival is in full swing this week with celebs and A-listers congregating in the Italian city to debut some of the season’s highly anticipated films and shows. With such a gathering of stars, the red carpet certainly had no shortage of glitz and glam as the glitterati pulled out all the stops for their appearances.
And spotted painting the town red are none other than Three Lives, Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms’s Mark Chao and actress Gong Li who were in town for the screening of their new movie, the historical spy thriller Saturday Fiction. Set in Japanese occupied Shanghai during WW2, a film star returns to Shanghai in a messy tale of love and betrayal, of espionage and of survival.

Mark Chao oozed 007 vibes for his red carpet look, opting to go the classic route spiced with autumnal undertones in a claret red velvet tuxedo and slicked back locks. He definitely did well for a Venice Film Festival first timer didn’t he? It’s been a while since we’ve seen the actor in something new what with OrdinaryGlory not yet out in the small screens so fans must be pretty excited! Not to mention their film is one of the flicks vying for the top prize in the Festival.

Not to be upstaged by her co-star, Gong Li slayed in a scarlet and black Elie Saab dress and a whole lotta confidence as she attended the event with her French husband Jean-Michel Jarre. The actress trended on Chinese social media site Weibo for her majestic aura at the red carpet.
Saturday Fiction will premiere on December 7, 2019.
