The Best Partner (2019)

For a former Law and Order obsessed viewer like me who now devours Suits and Bull for her weekly fix, C-ent’s newest legal drama The Best Partner 精英律师 sounds like an interesting look at the happenings behind the courtroom. I’m already anticipating the sort of interaction between the drama’s two main leads will have since the partnership between legal eagle Luo Bin and his new assistant Dai Xi could potentially have similar vibes to the Harvey – Mike dynamic that keeps viewers coming back for more Suits. And boring as law sounds (at least for some), if the drama plays their cards right, they might just have a hit in their hands.

In the 45-episode drama, Luo Bin is a senior partner at Panorama Law Firm who by chance gains a new assistant when Dai Xi goes over to his firm to argue her best friend’s case with him. Obsessed with winning, Luo Bin and Dai Xi don’t get along at first and often butt heads over the differences in their opinions. However, after working together for a while, they soon develop a deeper understanding about each other and Dai Xi gradually begins to respect Luo Bin. Luo Bin too begins to change his perspective under Dai Xi’s influence, becoming more empathetic and realising that winning is not everything. Will the two prove to be each other’s “best partner”?

The drama’s cast is a mini Nirvana in Fire and Disguiser reunion of sorts for actor Jin Dong as he once again shares the spotlight with actress Liu Mintao and Angel Wang Ou with the latter guest starring. Langya Hall’s master plays legal hotshot Luo Bin with actress Lyric Yan Yingying picking up the gauntlet as his assistant. Joining them are actors Sun Chun, Tian Yu, Zhu Zhu and Dai Xu. The Best Partner also guest stars Vivian Wu, Hai Yitian, Wang Yang and Wu Yue.
