Fans of the novel and anime might need no further introduction to The King’s Avatar 全职高手, but for the potential new fans the TV drama can rope in, The King’s Avatar is a 40 episode series that gives viewers a glimpse into the world of online gaming as it follows the life of top player Ye Xiu, played by actor Yang Yang.

Ye Xiu is one of the elite top players of the game Glory. Due to a series of events, he is forced to take on a job managing an internet cafe after being expelled from his professional team. But Ye Xiu is not a quitter, so armed with his years of gaming experience, a new identity, a partially finished secret weapon and LOTS of guts, he goes all out to claw his way back up to the top in the quest for what else? Glory. After all, no guts no glory right?

The series boasts an extraordinarily expansive roster of actors competing against each other on opposing teams in the drama. Aside from actor Yang Yang who’s been a busy little bee these days with a lot of projects, viewers will also see actress Maggie Jiang Shuying who aptly plays the “I don’t take crap from anyone” spunky lady boss.
You’ll also see a mix of familiar and new faces in Lai Yumeng, Li Muchen, Leon Lai Yi, Fan Jinwei, Bai Xiang, Sun Ning, Yang Tingdong, Daniel Gu Ningfeng, Gao Hanyu, Jiang Long, Gu Youming and Liang Sen who will be in different gaming teams facing off.

Life action not cool. You need to mix both in gaming and realty. Guess have to wait how they do it.

I really like the idea of having a drama about professional gamers and the industry of gaming. It's a good premise for manga too, and I suspect there're published titles already (though I don't know of any.) It's insanely tough and competitive but also fabulously rewarding for those who make it.
The thing is…I rather prefer the main character as someone novice, a newbie with hidden talent who stumbles in and gives us a ground-level view of the field. Let the story be about his triumph over the many difficulties in mastering the game, learning about rules and politics, and overcoming the freakish friends and rivals of the business. That would be exciting to watch.
Instead, you put idols in all the roles acting cool and tough, and the drama functions more like a catwalk for the models to strut around like they own the place. It's one glamour shot after another like the pages of a fashion magazine.
I don't know. Is realism such a bad thing?
