Have you ever wondered how it was for women during the olden days? I know, I have. It’s no secret that men viewed women as mere homemakers back then and they were generally looked down upon. This is the situation the female lead in MBC’s upcoming historical drama Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung 신입사관 구해령 will find herself experiencing.

The 32-episode drama will follow the story of our two leads as their destinies collide all because of a book. The titular role Goo Hae Ryung, to be portrayed by charming actress Shin Se Kyung, is a novice palace historian who wants nothing but equality. The drama is set in 19th century Joseon, where Confucius’ ideas are so deeply rooted that most females, including Goo Hae Ryung, are faced with gender stereotyping while fulfilling their duties well. One day, because of her hobby of reading books to other people, she stumbles upon a romance novel entitled “Moonlight Love Affair” authored by a popular novelist.

Little did she know that the book is actually written by a prince – Lee Rim, to be played by the swoon-worthy actor Cha Eun Woo. Lee Rim is a lonely prince who secretly lives a double life of being a famous novelist. Our two protagonists somehow meet, and as their paths intertwine, thus begins a story of how their love blossoms and how each one will deal with his own struggles.
Another good looking face you might take notice of is actor Lee Ji Hoon who has signed on to play another main lead, the upright and very capable government official, Min Woo-won. I wonder how he fits into the grand scheme of things? Meanwhile, Park Ki Woong plays the crown prince caught in the political power plays in the palace.
Will our lonely, romantic prince have to compete against others for the historian’s love? Hmm, I’m loving this already! Plus, bookworms will surely love the role of Cha Eun Woo in the drama because falling in love with a romantic author is a dream come true! (err, for me that is!)

The cast also includes Park Jihyun, Kim Yeo Jin and Ryoo Tae Ho.
