If you’re into K-entertainment like me, then chances are high that you know about South Korea’s mandatory military enlistment. It’s heartbreaking, I know, because your favorite male idol or actor will be temporarily gone from the spotlight for about two years but hey, they say that time flies so fast, right?
And I guess they’re right because as of July 1, 2019, top hallyu star Kim Soo-hyun is officially discharged from his military service! It seems like it was only yesterday when I was bawling because I was watching his send off last October 23, 2017 (one of my saddest birthdays). He entered a military camp in Paju, Gyeonggi Province for his five-week basic training and was placed fourth for his excellent service. He was then assigned to the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion to continue his active duty. But it seems like the lovable star who became a household name, thanks to his great acting in Dream High and My Love from the Star among others, is not only a great actor but also a great soldier as we heard news of his promotion to Sergeant for his outstanding conduct in the military earlier this year.
On Monday , the actor marked the end of his military enlistment through a close-door ceremony. He then met his fans and reporters in front of Imjingak Peace Ball where he was greeted with cheers and applause. Kim Soo-hyun was delighted with the warm welcome and thanked everyone there.
He shared his worries inside the camp including entering a bit late compared to others and thinking that it might be a problem. (Clearly, it wasn’t!) The actor also sheepishly admitted that he kept himself energized by listening to the latest songs and watching music videos everyday. He also relayed that while he is planning to come back to show business, he’s not actually in a hurry and is planning to make his appearance again by early next year.
Oh well, I’m just glad that he’s back now. I needed this comfort after sending off another male idol today – Do Kyungsoo. Lol!
I am so excited he is back! Hope he is careful , takes his time and picks a strong comeback drama.
