After the success of The Lost Tomb in 2015, production company H&R Century Pictures is back with the next installment based on Kennedy Xu’s (南派三叔) Daomu Biji novels.
The Lost Tomb 2: The Wrath of The Sea (doesn’t the title have a Hollywood ring to it?) also known as Explore With the Note 盗墓笔记之怒海潜沙 sees the return of tomb raider Wu Xie for a new adventure uncovering secrets from a Ming Dynasty tomb buried deep under the sea. The 40-episode sequel also provides audiences with the backstory of Wu Xie’s uncle, Wu Sansheng as he relives the dangers from a past expedition.

The trailer positively exudes The Mummy crossed with Lara Croft’s Tomb Raider vibes with the traps and maneuvers the tomb robbers need to employ to uncover the long buried secrets being guarded by the under sea tomb. If you’re a huge Indiana Jones, The Adventures of Sinbad, The Mummy (the Brendan Fraservariety) and Tomb Raider fan like me, this new series will certainly be up your street! After all, nothing opens up the good ole imagination more than tales of quests, myths, curses, archeological digs leading to long buried treasure now doesn’t it. And like most adaptation of the Daomu Biji novels, this series seems choc full of it !

Given that this is a sequel, it’s only logical to expect the old cast and crew. Unfortunately, the production company has done a rejig of the actors appearing in the new drama. Particularly, if you’re expecting Li Yifeng to reprise his role of Wu Xie, a new face will be greeting you as rising star Neo Hou Minghao picks up the gauntlet from where Li Yifeng left off. Wu Xie’s sidekick/partner Zhang Qi Ling suffers the same fate as Yang Yang makes way for actor Cheng Yi. The series also features Li Man, Zhang Boyu, Liu Xueyi, Yao Yichen, Yao Lu and Adison Liao Yanlong.
Release Date: June 6, 2019 (Thursday to Saturday, 8 pm on Tencent)
