Fans of Asian superstar Lee Min Ho will be mighty pleased to know that the actor is back and raring to go with his return to the k-drama industry. He has been cast in the leading male role of a new drama The King: The Eternal Monarch according to a press release by production company Haw&Dam Pictures. The actor will be reuniting with his talented The Heirs screenwriter Kim Eun Sook in this new project which is slated for release sometime in 2020.
Lee Min Ho, who skyrocketed to fame with his portrayal of the reformed by originally douche-y arrogant rich boy Go Joon Pyo in the uber popular 2009 series Boys Over Flowers, has been out of the K-entertainment scene for quite some time in order fulfill his mandatory military service duties to his country. So this announcement is definitely welcome news for fans eager to see their favourite actor back in action after being discharged recently.

The King: The Eternal Monarch will be directed by Baek Sang Hoon who also worked with Kim Eun Sook in the phenomenal hit drama Descendants of the Sun. The upcoming drama introduces the concept of parallel worlds which is something quite fresh to see in the k-drama plots. It follows the story of two individuals living in parallel worlds – a Korean emperor living in one of those worlds and a modern day police detective inhabiting another.
PS. If you have any doubts about the potential of the script and the brilliance of Kim Eun Sook, allow me tell you that the screenwriter was the brains behind some of the popular k-dramas sweeping the world off of its feet. Shows like Goblin with the dreamy Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook, Lovers in Paris (if you’ve been watching k-dramas since the early noughties), the hit rom-com Secret Garden with Hallyu stars Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won, The Heirs and Descendants of the Sun as well as Mr. Sunshine which boasts mega star Lee Byung Hun (a constant presence in k-dramas since the Hallyu wave first swept all over the world and has now broken into Hollywood with roles in GI Joe, Red 2 and Terminator Genisys) as its leading male actor. I for one am quite excited to see what new magic Kim Eun Sook will be bringing to the small screens with this new drama.
