If you’re currently diggin’ the campus drama Put Your Head on My Shoulders (the Paul Anka song automatically plays in my head for some reason) that’s currently airing and its cute dorky gal lead, Xing Fei, then can I direct your attention to Your Highness Class Monitor 班长“殿下” for another dose of the quirky gal. From the looks of things, the actress certainly seems to have a fondness for the youthful genre as the series is, yup you guessed it, another campus drama!
The story is an adaptation of the novel 蜜爱百分百：校草的专属甜心 by An Xiangnuan 安向暖. In the drama, entitled rich boy Gu Xinchen, played by actor Niu Junfeng faces off with class monitor Su Niannian played by the actress Xing Fei in a battle of wills. They say there’s a thin line between love and hate and indeed, the pair go from foes to lovers as they strive to find direction in life.
Truthfully, like Put Your Head on My Shoulder, the story line is neither ground breaking or an original one but as many of you have pointed out, the lead character’s chemistry, combined with a more mature, warmer sort of natural acting is what keeps you going back for more. I reckon too that it would be interesting to see whether Xing Fei’s take on her character in Your Highness Class Monitor will provide audiences with a fresh new look into this genre or will she stick to the tried and tested formula that’s made PYHOMS a surprise hit.
That said, while filming has already been completed waaaay back in 2017, the drama has yet to hit the small screens. But with the success of PYHOMS putting actress Xing Fei’s name on the map, let’s hope the drama will finally receive some air time soon.
