Held In The Lonely Castle 孤城闭 has dropped another set of posters and we finally get to see the cast in their costumes. The drama series is based on the novel of the same title by Milan Lady. Wang Kai headlines as Emperor Zhao Zhen himself.
Milan Lady also wrote the novel that Poetry Of The Song Dynasty starring Liu Tao and Vic Chou is based on. Wang Kai’s Zhao Zhen is the son of Liu E who is the main character in Poetry Of The Song Dynasty. Although not officially a sequel, it’s nice to know there is at least some connection, however minimal, between the two.
Maggie Jiang Shuying is a strong female ruler as Empress Cao while Wang Churan plays consort Zhang. Both look regal and gorgeous in their costumes. I’m almost certain these two women will butt heads somewhere along the series.
It’s also interesting to note that the main character in the novel is the eunuch Lian Huaiji, played by Bian Cheng, who falls in love with the emperor’s eldest daughter played by Ren Min. I’m curious as to what path this forbidden love will take and how they are going adapt it for the small screen especially now that the focus is on the emperor, his relationship with his daughter and his royal court.
