Considering that Dylan Wang was recently spotted on the set of Ever Night 2 将夜2, it was only a matter of time before they made it official. He will be joining the show as the main protagonist, replacing Arthur Chen who previously stated that he wouldn’t be returning for the sequel.
The look and feel of the series is much like season 1 with the same old umbrella, the same leading lady played by Song Yiren, the same director Yang Yang (not the actor) and producer Wang Yuren.
Despite having a rookie actor in the lead, season 1 turned out to be a magical journey on a grand scale that hit all the right spots for fantasy buffs. There’s always a big risk that comes with a major casting change and a lot of pressure falling on the shoulders of the new guy. The production team is unanimous in saying that Meteor Garden star Dylan Wang has what it takes to play the role of Ning Que. It is Dylan’s first period drama and second drama in his career. Now that he’s in costume, what do you think?
Season 2 is expected to continue the story after the great battle as Ning Que returns to Tang Cheng.

I think he will do fine, his character in Meteor Garden was similar to Ning Que and he did well in that. I will definitely watch it if only for the outstanding fight scenes.

I do get why people are disliking this fact, but i think he'll do great. But I do agree, it will be different without Arthur's and Song Yiren's chemistry. Hopefully Dylan will make it work, I mean, so far I ain't disappointed, he looks great as Ning Que 😛

The reason why Chen FeiYu will always be Ning Que is not the fact that he originated the role, he IS Ning Que period. The author of 将夜 himself said Feiyu was perfect for the role.
It's hard for a lot of the original series fans to see another actor step into the role when it JUST completed.
I wish Wang HeDi luck but he's not my Ning Que. Please don't be stupid to recommend to watch the Meteor Garden remake since I watch good C-dramas. I said what I said and I'm entitled to my feelings.

It's always hard for viewers when a character gets replaced, much more when it's the lead role. I think it's an injustice for both CFY and WHD =(
I'd give it a chance though since I saw some fight scenes and WHD looks really good.

Well, your Ning Que wanted out. Short of tying him down, the production can't make him do what he doesnt want to do anymore. They should have signed him up for a 3-season contract so we don't have to deal with this major change. Tbh I'm also pretty annoyed with CFY for not finishing what he started. I dont know who's really at fault, just that all the internal drama is messing up a good cdrama.

Yeah, you're the expert "know-it-all" alright ��. So what? He's an actor and has the right to refuse. He's a son of one of the most recognized directors and actress. FeiYu's reasoning was valid to why he wasn't returning, which is going to school. He's from the US and will be attending an American university for the time being. He just finished another drama before going back to school.
Literally Yang Yang (the female director) got the A+ cast of super well-known actors in supporting roles because Chen FeiYu was involved. The strings to add names like Leon Lai and Adam Cheng were clearly a result of having Chen Kaige's son play the lead. Label him with nepotism all you want but he still has people singing his praises. He's a natural talent and has a bigger profile than WHD regardless.
HeDi's case is different, he was lucky to nab a lead role again for his second but it doesn't mean he's good. He'll always be seen as a replacement substitute to fans of the OG series. The reason people are PISSED off besides the lead change is the story is starting to veer off differently from the novel. Hedi is a handsome dude, but no one can erase FeiYu.
If you think EN2 can get 7 stars on Douban easily, good luck since that means it would be a good drama (which the first series got). China doesn't give a crap about what international fans think.
