Story of Yanxi Palace has a spinoff Yanxi Palace: Princess Adventures 延禧番外篇: 金枝玉叶 about the next generation of characters. Now this is completely news to me! It seems that filming was completed last year, so my guess is that their story was likely part of the original story and simply set aside to air at a later time. With Yanxi’s success, that time may come sooner rather than later.
Rain Wang Herun takes the lead as the 7th Princess Zhaohua, the daughter of Wei Yingluo and Qianlong. She seems like a character that would take after her mother in many ways and she fall into a complicated romance with Fu Kang An. What little sneak peek we have of the production reveals another man in her life, a Mongolian prince, so frankly, I’m not too sure who’s the leading man. It seems like there will be no shortage of heartaches with two men in her life and the complex palace machinations that are sure to come with it.

Wang Yizhe plays Fu Kang An.

Fu Kang An when he was little.

Wang Yuwei plays a Mongolian Prince.

The four main characters Rain Wang Herun (Legend of Fuyao), Wang Yizhe, Vic Wang Yuwei and Xu Xiaonuo (Take My Brother Away) together for a group picture. Compared to Yanxi which had a number of veteran actors in leading roles, we seem to have a much younger cast heading up the spinoff as they are up and comers in their early twenties.

For me, Wang Herun is the more recognizable face among the four as I enjoyed her performances in Colourful Bone and Legend of Fuyao. To top it off, she’s also playing a princess in Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace.

castings don't look too promising…people might have issues with wu jingyan at the beginning too. But she was overall a tiny girl in the cute category which I know would usually do well, just not sure about the more mature looking ones as a main lead.
maybe might as well reuse some of the expensive settings and clothings so they dont go to waste.
