Empress of the Ming 大明皇妃孙若微传 has dropped a sneak peek into the next female-empowered historical drama. The main character, Sun Ruowei is played by international star Tang Wei. She witnesses the rise and fall of an empire as she lives through six emperors, helping each and every one of them rule the country.

At first glance, I actually thought that there was another female ruler in China aside from Wu Zetian. Sun Ruowei never ruled herself, but became an Empress consort of the Ming Dynasty.

Is it a coincidence that Zhu Yawen has the same surname as the character he’s playing? The Ming Dynasty imperial family is comprised of the House of Zhu. With a quick peek at this new film, he seems to have really gotten into the role as he acts fierce as a prince but smooth as a sweet talker.

We get only one scene of Qiao Zhenyu who plays a man in love with Sun Ruowei.

Zhang Yixing Lay makes quite a few appearances in the trailer as the son of Sun Ruowei. Some argue that it’s his first time wearing a historical costume and it looks good on him, but for me, he’s cuter with glasses on.
