Summer blockbuster season is bustling with two new movies. Dying to Survive which just started hitting theaters on July 5 has been making a killing. It follows a leukemia patient, played by Xu Zheng, who engages in smuggling counterfeit drugs.

The touching story with a life lesson to impart seems to have struck a chord with viewers. Word of mouth has been extremely positive and Douban ratings have reached a high of 9.0. The movie has brought in a total of RMB 623 million by day 3 of its release.

Animal World which premiered on June 29 quickly ousted Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on its opening weekend. It is already going on day 9 and has lost any chance of topping the charts due to the groundbreaking success of Dying to Survive. Ticket sales may have failed to live up to expectations, but it has been holding its own in the box office.
The movie has brought in a total of RMB 386 million so far. Li Yifeng sheds his idol image to win praise from fans and critics alike as the main protagonist of the film that is loosely based on Nobuyuki Fukumoto’s manga, Ultimate Survivor.
