Lost in 1949 脱身 is a 46-episode spy drama that stars Chen Kun who as two characters, a doctor and a street rat. This drama is set in 1949 and tells of how two people meet by chance, fall in love and devote their entire lives to serving their country.
Their encounter begins on New Year’s Day when they accidentally switch briefcases, thus starting the story that entangles Communist agent Huang Liwen with the two brothers Qiao Zhicai and Qiao Lijie (Chen Kun).
This drama marks Chen Kun’s return to the small screen after almost 10 years of doing only movies. This, along with the upcoming drama, The Rise of the Phoenixes will hopefully be the first few of many more TV projects for this great actor.
Chen Kun is known to be picky about the roles and movies he chooses and it shows. He has done a variety of movies that branched out into the international scene and have received quite a bit of attention internationally from the Golden Globes to the Cannes Film Festival. It is reported that Chen Kun was so drawn to the remarkable story of Lost in 1949 that he chose it as his first one in almost a decade. I am excited to watch this as he will definitely lend a certain panache into this drama for sure.
His leading lady Wan Qian has been nothing short of impressive in recent roles like Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy and Secret of the Three Kingdoms. The cast also includes Elvira Cai Wenjing (A Seven-Faced Man), Zhang Xiaochen (All Out of Love), Hai YItian (City of Desire) and Yin Zhusheng (Heroes of the North). David Wang YaoQing, Zhao WenXuan, Liao Fan and Wang JingChun guest star.
