There’s another drama, Medical Examiner Dr Qin 法医秦明之幸存者, not to be confused with Medical Examiner Dr Qin 2 that is also in the works. This one starring Jing Chao is produced by Tencent while Sohu produced the successful 2016 drama led by Zhang Ruoyun that spouted a sequel with Liu Dong Qin.
I think it’s a gutsy move for both companies to adapt a drama based on the same book series, which seems to be happening more lately. It’s like having somebody do the TV series, Friends, at the same time. First, it’s a race to see who can finish production and post production work faster. Second, it will be a race to see who can premiere first and finally, who will get the bigger chunk of market viewing shares.
I can’t wait to see and compare both. Update: Interestingly, both have aired within months of each other. Dr. Qin 2 aired back in June while Tencent’s version of Dr. Qin premieres on August 9, 2018.
