Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings 狄仁杰之四大天王 just held its second press conference in Beijing in anticipation of its big premiere on July 27, 2018. Mark Chao, Feng Shaofeng, Lin Gengxin and Sandra Ma represented the cast while Director Tsui Hark, Screenwriter Chen Guo Fu, etc. took the stage to represent the production team. I love the cast and have complete faith in Tsui Hark who is a legend in his own right.

Everyone was quite careful not to give anything away, so there’s really not much more information to go off since the press conference last year. Like all Detective Dee movies, there is a conspiracy to unravel and a big bad behind the scenes. Only this time, they’re building up the movie as Detective Dee’s most difficult challenge to date, one that he cannot overcome.

It was great to see the cast promoting together, if only to showcase how close they’ve grown since working on the last film five years ago. I don’t know what’s going on in the pictures (looks like Peng Lian Sha), but shy, they are not. Jokes aside, their camaraderie definitely shines through, and it’s no wonder everyone came back. The success of the movie has a hand in it too, I hope it does well in the box office so that they get to make more.

I miss Mark’s acting in dramas. I hope he returns with a modern drama, i would love to see him in something like Zhang Han’s current character in Here to Heart. Smart and rich male lead — i doubt he would ever take on those cliche roles since he himself said he’s not into those type of roles.
