Negotiator 谈判官 which aired as a daily drama welcomes its season finale tonight at 7:30pm. It’s been a month of watching Huang Zitao and Yang Mi romancing each other through the course of forty-something episodes. The show seems to be getting mixed reception from those who absolutely love it and those that don’t. Regardless, it’s been doing well in ratings and has just hit 10 billion views online – though it does have the advantage of airing on all the major websites Mango TV, iQiYi, Sohu Youku and Tencent. Are you tuning in for the finale? Negotiator will be followed by Old Boy starring Liu Ye, Ariel Lin and Lei Jiayin.

It’s a crappy drama. The high ratings are due to Yang Mi’s and HZT’s large fans base. It’s an idol drama, so of course their fans will support.

Probably better to watch older dramas like Oh My General which has comedy that is actually funny and maybe My Huckleberry Friends.

China cannot do chinese dramas well; except for maybe one or two per year. Probably SAFRT (?) is the main cause of this. This is filled with old boring troupes and cliches. Huang Zitao's character is the only highlight of the drama. Yang Mi here feels like Yang Mi from Interpreter – she's definitely better in ancient dramas.

*cannot do modern dramas

Normally I would agree because while I do find a lot of historical/wuxia C-dramas enjoyable, I'm not a huge fan of modern C-dramas. It does feel like modern C-dramas are getting better though! I recently finished A Love So Beautiful and absolutely loved it! I was so impressed by the production quality, acting, and storyline. After that I thought that maybe all modern C-dramas were good now, so I watched Cambrian period. While it definitely wasn't on par with ALSB, it wasn't as terrible as most of the other C-dramas I've tried & dropped lol.

I'm a huge fan of Yang Mi after the ten thousand peach blossom drama, but I'm not a huge fan of Tao's acting so I skipped this haha

A Love So Beautiful was such so fresh and lovely to watch! I found it much more interesting than Negotiator and enjoyed the two leads' chemistry much better than Yang Mi + Tao's (YM doesn't work well in modern dramas, I think)

I beg to differ. For me, the most annoying thing about the drama was the way Huang Zitao portrayed his character (Xie Xiaofei). It was very 2-dimensional and exaggerated – when XXF was rich, he was an annoying, arrogant jerk. He was more bearable when he was down and out, but as soon as he was rich again, he was back to being the annoying, arrogant jerk. I would have preferred to see a different XXF and more layered emotions in his acting, especially in the last few episodes.
Yang Mi's character here (Tong Wei) is totally different from the Interpreter and she does a wonderful job of portraying the successful modern working woman that is Tong Wei – confident, smart, independent, charming, polished, assertive but not aggressive. I like her nuanced performance – you could tell what Tong Wei was feeling just by looking at her eyes and facial expressions. It is not necessary to overact to convey emotions.

The reason why Negotiator was successful is because of Huang Zitao, he's the one who trended and he was called Nations Boyfriend and Nations Son in Law because Xie Xiaofei is a big hit with Chinese audiences. https://www.dramafever.com/news/the-surprising-reason-why-the-negotiator-has-hit-5-billion-views-in-china/

Ermmm … no. Incorrect information. Everyone knows Yang Mi is one of the three most popular actresses in China along with Zhao Liying and Dilraba Dilmurat and unbelievably receives far more income than any other Chinese actor except Luhan and Fan Bingbing.

It was a Nation wide hit with over 10 billion views and #1 ratings every single episode, that can't be the fans alone. Negotiator was the #1 topic and a favorite with across all demographics.
