Even though Teresa Teng passed away more than twenty years ago, she continues to be one of the most highly regarded music icons. I know my parents love her and I’d be hard pressed to find anyone in the Chinese-speaking world who hasn’t heard of her songs. There were talks of her life story being made into a drama since 2015 and it was only today that Michelle Chen finally confirms as the lead in her first drama since giving birth.
Based on her looks, age and even her background being from Taiwan, I can see why Michelle Chen was casted for the role. I remember that she sings too, though it seems like a really tall order to rise up the challenge of becoming Teresa Teng. I’m hopeful that Michelle Chen can pull it off as this could be another career-changing role for her if she does well.
Peter Ho was announced as her leading man. His most memorable performance as of late was in the hit drama Nothing Gold Can Stay where he worked with Chen Xiao who is Michelle Chen’s husband. He technically lost the girl to Chen Xiao there, so netizens can’t help but joke at the turn of events.
Also in the cast are Peng Guan Ying, Eva Lu Yi, Zhang Chen Guang, Ni Hong Jie and Kou Shi Xun. Filming is expected to begin on March 16, 2018. UPDATE: After 5 years, Teresa Teng 但愿人长久 secured a broadcast date on August 5, 2023 on Dragon TV, Beijing TV, Jiangsu TV as well as online platforms Tencent and Youku. However, the release date was postponed shortly after.
