The New Smiling, Proud Wanderer 笑傲江湖 tells a story of a student from the righteous sect who ventures into the pugilistic arts world and befriends people, both good and bad, in his journey to become a powerful swordsman.
It is adapted from a wuxia novel by Jin Yong 金庸 and led by a rookie cast that includes Ding Guan Sen, Xue Hao Jing, Ding Yuxi, Chen Xun, Jiang Xin Xin, Ding Yuxi, Liu Jiatong and Jiang Zhuo Jun. There hasn’t been much exposure for the young actors since promotions only started in recent weeks, but the slick cinematography shown in the trailer has proven quite promising.
The story begins as the righteous sects wage war against the Sun Moon Sect. Under the leadership of Yue Jian Sect, the people of jianghu unite with a common goal to destroy the enemy. In order to consolidate power, everyone searches for the legendary scroll that is said to contain powerful martial arts techniques. Linghu Chong who is a student of the Hua Shang Sect receives an order from his master to visit the Lin Family but ends up witnessing the Lin household being massacred overnight. Throughout his journey, Linghu Chong meets Ren Ying Ying and Bai Bu and forges a friendship with them, oblivious to their ties to the evil sect.

the plot is good. but i'm a bit dissapointed with the fighting scenes, they are too slow.

I liked this a lot more than the version with Wallace, for me this version is how they should have done the Wallace version.

I just started watching the first episode. Terrible LHC impersonation. The fighting skill too slow as VoxPopuli said. All the actor are too young. Costumes using capes makes movement uncomfortable. No comment on CGI yet.

The best XAJH adaption are still the 2001 version. it was loyal to the original novel . This is a classic and masterpiece work of Chin Yong , The 2018 version is manipulated too much , the worst thing is how the Dong fang Bu Bai ( DFBB ) character is changed from the original. The DFBB conlict is one of the most interesting part of the original story. Too many miscast of the main roles. The only fit to the role for me is Ren Ying Ying and Yi Lin.
