River Flows To You 流淌的美好时光 is a 52-episode Chinese drama adapted from a novel of the same name by Guo Jingming 郭敬明. A movie adaptation with a different cast was also released in 2018. From what I’ve read, the prevailing theme for the novel should be all kinds of gut-wrenching as it tackles serious issues like bullying, suicide and high school pregnancy.
Even so, it looks like the drama may be a watered down version of that as it opts for a more heartwarming take on the story. Formerly known as Cry Me A Sad River 悲伤逆流成河 which hints at so much sorrow that it forms a river, River Flows To You puts a positive spin to the Chinese title as it talks about the flow of beautiful times.
The story revolves around a romance between two people who grew up in the same neighborhood. As the brotherly figure, Qi Ming (Ma Tianyu) takes care of Yi Yao (Zheng Shuang) and genuinely looks out for her in spite of her difficult situation. Qi Ming plants a tree for her and makes a wish to give Yi Yao her ideal home, one that will give her warmth. He stays with her through surgery and misdiagnosis. As they mature and enter the workforce, they learn that youth is full of beautiful memories and also regrets.
It stars Ma Tianyu (Ice Fantasy Destiny), Zheng Shuang (Just One Smile Is Very Alluring), Chai Biyun (Border Town Prodigal), Zhou Chengao (Deep in My Heart), Zhu Yan Man Zi (Unrequited Love), Zhang Yichi, Zhang Yang Zhi Zi, Ding Chuncheng and Wu Yajun (Martial Universe).

How has Zheng Shuang been feeling lately? I've heard she had some health issues. Is she fine now?

This sounds interesting and I like the cast with the exception of the leading lady. Zheng Shuang is such a bad actress.

I got so excited when I saw Ma Tianyu but then I read Zheng Shuang. This is not going to be on my watchlist just because she's such a bad actress.

I watched the first episode. It is good. Ma Tian Yu is always good. Say what you will of zuang shuang, but she shines as a first lead. The story is good, bickering parents, college shenanigans from the first episode. I did not read the book, but the first episode does not seem very depressing.
