A Better Tomorrow 4 is a Chinese movie directed by Ding Sheng that is inspired by the 1986 John Woo classic of the same name. It stars Wang Kai (Dynasty Warriors), Ma Tianyu (Secret of the Three Kingdoms) and Darren Wang (The Majesty of Wolf). Ever since the three got to bond while filming, their newfound friendship already has me sold on the movie that promises to be an intense ride in a world of cops and triads.
The story revolves around two brothers – the older brother gets arrested by his own younger brother for smuggling which finally sets him straight but his past refuses to let him go. It’s basically like its 1986 predecessor played by Ti Lung and the late Leslie Cheung as the brothers and Chow Yun-fat as the gangster friend. Believe it of not, I never saw the original but mainstream audiences do love a good emotional hook to ground a movie that’s most likely going to be brimming with blazing guns and glory. If the plan is to indulge with lots of Wang Kai, Ma Tianyu and Darren Wang scenes, then please indulge away.
