Zhao Li Ying and Feng Shaofeng have been paired together on several occasions this year from doing promotions for their upcoming movie Monkey King 3 to dating rumors that have since been dispelled. Coincidentally, it was being called out as a possible marketing gimmick for their newest drama The Story of Ming Lan 知否知否应是绿肥红瘦 which has dropped some character stills today.
I obviously can’t speak to their private lives, but just as a fan, I think they look great as a couple pairing, even though there’s a part of me that is still praying for a reunion with Lin Gengxin. My only complaint, and I hope I don’t get yelled at, is that the posters looks disappointingly outdated compared to the slick visuals that I’ve grown so accustomed to with recent productions. The costumes and styling make the actors come off as plain-looking, which is odd as I usually find Zhao Li Ying to be striking especially in ancient garb. Nonetheless, there is a saying not to judge a book by its cover.
Here’s a look at some behind the scenes of Feng Shaofeng (Starry Night Starry Sea 2) and Zhu Yi Long (Border Town Prodigal) on the set of Ming Lan. They’ll be the two men pining after the leading lady. Zhao Li Ying is nowhere to be seen in the pictures as she was probably still filming Our Glamorous Times at the time (girl really works a lot).

I actually like the simplicity. She hasn't had a drama in that era in the long time. I'm so used to seeing her in xianxia. Looking forward to her poster before she got married.
She looks so much younger here, which is fitting because the male lead is supposed to be a lot older.
