Blind Date 盲约 is a 52-episode Chinese rom-com based on the Argentinian telenovela Ciega a Citas that follows a woman on a quest to find love by participating in a series of blind dates. The 34-year-old actress Jiang Xin (Ode to Joy 2) headlines as Summer (Xia Tian) who is 30 (apparently, she’s 28) and single. She is described as an unattractive woman scorned for being unmarried at her age.
She overhears her mom talking to her perfect younger sister who’s about to get married and saying, “Look, when the time comes, your older sister will wear a loose-fitting black dress, still fat as she attends your wedding alone.”

The comment easily raises Summer’s hackles and she makes a bet with mom to bring someone on her sister’s wedding even though it is only 278 days away. I think we all know how this story is going to end when the leading lady mets Lu Yi (In the Name of People) who is looking exceptionally dapper in the batch of stills.

It’s bound to be a romance with funny mishaps along the way, though I’m hoping that it goes deeper than that to explore the heroine slowly coming out of her shell to be comfortable in her own skin. I’m not really sure how we’re supposed to believe that Jiang Xin is not pretty when she looks this gorgeous, but that’s probably where her acting skills come in (and camera angles).
