OCN has been dominating with their crime thrillers this year and to add to the list of great dramas they’ve been giving us is Duel, a drama that has to do with clones. Yup, I said it. Clones.
This drama surprised me because it delves right into the heart and chaos of things, hardly anything is set up prior to all the action and suspenseful moments so if you haven’t read a synopsis or review on this yet, you’ll be left confused and boggled. So do your homework kids!

Duel is about Jang Deuk Cheon (Jung Jae Young), a Chief of a crime squad and Detective who ends up a victim of a kidnapping involving his daughter. As a loving and caring father, he’s desperate to get his daughter back whose now at the mercy of a meticulous killer (Yang Se Jong). The only clue he has is that two men with the same face were found at the crime scene.

The two men in question are Sung Joon and Sung Hoon (Yang Se Jong) – one is real, the other isn’t, or they both might be real people playing a game or clones that are a perfect replica of the other. These phenomenas don’t concern the Chief but he’ll end up unraveling the mystery behind these two if he ever wants to see his daughter again. He’ll learn that one is a kind soul while the other is a murderous monster who steals the organs of his victims, and shockingly discovers that they each need the other to live, in a way ‘feeding’ off the emotions and existence of the other to survive.

To make things even more puzzling, there’s hints of medical science gone wrong in relation to stem cell research so this isn’t simply a case of identical twins and creates plenty of possibilities. It could be a case of two people sharing the same ‘brain’ essentially accomplices of the same crime while having an alibi, or other strange occurrences that deal with biological science gone wrong, creating the perfect killer – I’m speculating here but it does add something new to the table if it isn’t a case of identical twins with the same DNA, etc.
It’s similar to ‘The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” and ends up being the ultimate duel between good and evil, between two beings that personify the extremes of both and an average man and his daughter that are caught in the midst of it all.
