K.O. San Guo is the newest addition to the K.O. franchise

K.O. San Guo

Comic Entertainment has repackaged the 2009 Taiwanese school idol drama as K.O. San Guo New Ultimate 终极三国 and in keeping with the trademark concept of K.O. One, it follows a group of martial arts endowed students as they battle it out in the Three Kingdoms Era.

It begins when Zhi Ge and his friends are en route to the Silver Dimension to visit Sun Shang Xiang. A time warp occurs and Zhi Ge gets stuck in the Gold Dimension. He accidentally knocks Liu Bei unconscious and is shocked to find that they look exactly alike. Given that Liu Bei is an integral player during the Three Kingdoms Era, Zhi Ge pretends to be Liu Bei so as not to mess up the progression of events in this timeline.

K.O. San Guo ladies
If you are not familiar with K.O. One, you might find the whole thing outrageous, and in a lot of ways, it really is but it has a unique appeal that has worked for the franchise many times before. I quite enjoyed the previous versions headlined by Jiro Wang even though it is corny and cheesy as heck because ultimately, I grew attached to the characters and their story of friendship underneath the flashy antics. I honestly didn’t like the earlier KO San Guo, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this upcoming adaptation brings the same sense of humor.

The series is headlined by Sam Lin, Wayne Huang, Evan Ma, Ian Yi, Lucia Chen, Eunice Zhong Yu, Zhao Yaoke and Chen Shi Min, most of which are members of the Taiwan Mandopop boyband SpeXial and girlgroup A’N’D Angel’N’Devil.

Release Date: June 19, 2017 on Youku, iQiYi and GTV
