Based on the novel Summer, The Portrait of a 19 Year Old by Japanese mystery writer Soji Shimada, Edge of Innocence 夏天十九岁的肖像 is not your typical love story. Instead of the fluttering feelings of love at first sight, there is an accidental witness to a crime that takes a different twist when the main protagonist is drawn to the possible perpetrator.
The movie is directed by Chang Jung-Chi and stars Huang Zitao (A Chinese Odyssey), Ora Yang Caiyu, Calvin Tu and Vivien Li Meng. The cast seems perfect for the theme of innocence but I also get the sense that we are simply seeing the calm before the storm. Ultimately, this is a thrilling romance about secrets, racy passion and action.
When 19-year-old Kang Qiao was injured in an accident, he spends his time at the hospital peeking through the window where he becomes instantly attracted to the beautiful girl next door. Despite bearing witness to murder, Kang Qiao could only indirectly question Xia Yingying as he falls in love with her. What could possibly be her reason for killing her father? Can murder be justified? Is it really murder?
As Kang Qiao enters Xia Yingying’s world, he finds himself entangled in a complicated mess full of danger and uncertainty with people tailing him and threatening his existence. Meanwhile, Xia Yingying tries to put an end to their ‘summer love’. This is popular idol Huang Zitao’s first leading role in a movie. I saw the trailer recently and it seems pretty exciting. If Yingying is a murderer, I wonder if she is involved with some sort of mafia group since there are people targeting Kang Qiao. Is he threat? Why is he a threat? For simply being in love with Yingying? Anyway, I am looking forward to this movie and finding out the answers. 🙂

I agree with your comment about the mafia. The mafia group is a great point that may explain those people after Kang Qiao. Love isn't a crime, but I'm guessing that he may have accidentally discovered some mafia secrets as he tries to get to know Yingying better. There seems to be a lot of mysteries which make this movie really interesting. 🙂
